My beautiful niece recently got married to her soul mate in a lovely outdoor ceremony. They rented an entire country inn that is situated on a beautiful piece of property in rural NJ. Think rustic country chic with a beautiful barn for dancing. I will be doing a blog post shortly with all of the details of this fabulous DIY wedding.
As soon as Katie became engaged she asked me if I would refurbish a thrifted bar cart for her as a wedding gift. She loved what I did with my own vintage bamboo bar cart that I got for a STEAL on Craig’s List. You can read about that makeover here .
I snatched my cart up 3 years ago for a mere $75.00!
As we all know over the past few years the popularity of the bar cart has gone through the roof. Everywhere you look on Pinterest and Instagram there are beautiful images of bar carts and all the different ways you can style them. Therefore, finding a vintage one for a decent price ended up being a rather difficult task. Bamboo carts similar to mine are now going for $400-$500 on Craig’s List and E-Bay.
Therefore, I took my search to the internet and came across this beauty that you can find here …
I loved everything about it…the round shape, gold finish, compact size, mirrored trays, etc. The only problem was the price tag. I really wanted to set up the bar cart for the happy couple stocked and styled with all kinds of fun stuff but with a price that high that would not be able to happen.
Sooo…you can imagine how happy I was when I found this look alike cart at World Market for the amazing price of $169.99. Plus I lucked out because they were running a great online promotion at the time , 15% off and free shipping (on any order over $100). The total came to $144.49!!
Now once the cart was squared away I could focus on the fun part…. accessories!
I wanted to make the happy couple a personalized printable to frame and put on the bar cart to make it look festive. I put this sign together on Pic Monkey.
I found this picture frame at Target and thought it would work perfectly with the Mr. & Mrs. Artwork. I love the white with the wood inlay. Can you believe it was only $7.99 for the 8×10 size?
I don’t know about you.. but the first place I look when at Target is the clearance section. Just seeing a little red clearance tag gets my heart racing. It definitely can be a hit or miss situation but I really lucked out this time and found lots of great bar cart accessories.
There was a clearance end cap in the dinnerware section with lots of fun items..
I grabbed 4 of these stoneware appetizer plates. Online they retail for $3.99 each but at my local store they were on clearance for $1.50 each.
I also picked up the matching Dip Bowl for $1.50 as well.
This Acacia Wood Bottle Opener retails for $6.99 but was on clearance at my store for $2.35.
When newly married, you will need a lot of coasters lying around for all of those spontaneous gatherings you will have with friends. This colorful set comes with 6 pairs of gold polka dotted coasters. They retail for $7.99 but I got them for less then $2.00.
When a young couple is first starting their life off together they can never have too many cook books. This little entertaining book is full of yummy appetizer and cocktail recipes and is absolutely perfect for the bar cart. The best part? It was on clearance! You will have to go to your local Target to get your own copy, they are not available online.
This pretty trio of votive candles was also on the clearance rack at my Target. Once the candle burns down the metallic gold jars can be re-used. Online they are on sale for $10.39 (regular price $12.99). I got them for under $5.00. I’m not sure how Target prices their sale and clearance items but there is definitely a variation between online and the retail store locations. All of the above items I purchased on clearance at my local store and online most are regularly priced. I’m not even sure if I went to another Target location if the same items would be on clearance or not.. but if you are interested it’s worth a shot to check your store out.
I have had my eye on this hammered gold finish ice bucket for some time now. I love how the scoop has a hook to hang on and the price is amazingly good at $29.99. I have seen similar buckets going for at least twice as much. Now I just hope they come out with a copper finish version!
No bar cart is complete without a bunch of fun colorful straws. Target carries a large selection of vintage style striped straws in every color under the rainbow. They can be found in the party goods aisle.
A must have item on this particular bar cart was a nice big bottle of Bailey’s Irish Cream for the bride and groom to enjoy in their honeymoon suite. It’s my niece’s favorite and I thought it would be a nice added surprise.
The finishing touch to my Bar Cart Wedding Gift was this metallic gold “Congrats” sign that I draped across the front. This must have been a graduation left over item because it was also on clearance. Yay for me!
Metallic Congrats Sign
The day after the wedding reception we snuck over to the newlyweds home while they were enjoying their first morning as a married couple in the honeymoon suite. We lugged all of the bar cart items in and got to work setting everything up..
Doesn’t it look adorable?
The happy couple was blown away when they came home to this perfect little set up. They couldn’t wait to snuggle up on their sofa with their bottle of Bailey’s and look through all of their beautiful wedding cards and gifts.
I’m so glad that I decided to go through with the whole idea of giving a fully stocked bar cart as a wedding gift. It’s something that they will both enjoy and use quite a bit over the years. Cash gifts are great but giving them something that’s fun and meaningful was very important to me. My niece has been browsing and pinning home decorating ideas since I can remember in anticipation of getting her first home. I thought the bar cart was the obvious choice when it comes to the perfect multi functional, stylish, youthful, statement making, and fun home décor item that every young couple must have in their first home together.
