I admit I am kind of behind the times-our TV as we speak is surrounded by a big ole clunky entertainment center. Now that I think about it, 10 years ago when we bought it they were already on their way out of fashion. Our home at the time had a huge wall that needed to be filled up. Then we moved into our current home and our family room was about 1/2 the size of our previous home and all of a sudden we were stuck with this huge brown monster. It’s silly, we have a flat screen TV that we could easily hang neatly on the wall but instead it just hangs out with this huge piece of furniture surrounding it.
Do you see what I mean? Plus the dark wood and the two brown sofas just kind of eat up all of the natural light giving the room a claustrophobic feel. There are lots of changes I would like to make to this room but first on the agenda is to find the perfect credenza to hang our TV over. Well actually the first thing I plan on doing is giving the entire room a fresh coat of white paint in order to lighten and brighten things up.
Now let’s take a look at all of the great credenza ideas I discovered…
This set-up that Emily Henderson came up with for her home is great for all of the storage it provides and the best part is it’s an affordable option. The media unit is from Ikea and is flanked by West Elm bookshelves. The crisp white keeps things airy and bright while still providing her plenty of room to display her treasures.
The above DIY beauty from Brittany is probably my all time fave. It’s just DIY perfection in my eyes. Everything from the coral color to the wood stained top and brass pulls makes my heart sing. I am tempted to try to recreate this in some way but most likely it would never compare to the original in my eyes.
OMG how gorgeous is the above piece? Albertina from Mimosa Lane had it custom made as part of her room she designed for the One Room Challenge. The entire room is completely stunning and you can see it in it’s entirety here.
This painted cabinet/credenza is so fresh looking and I’m sure relatively easy to do. It’s the perfect size for a smaller sized wall. Very cute!
The above space was designed by the amazing Emily Henderson for the equally amazing Joanna of A Cup of Jo blog. The simplicity of the credenza really appeals to me and I love the gallery of art surrounding the TV. Its odd but my husband seems to think that any art that is hung by the TV will somehow be distracting when watching it. He thinks that it will compete with what’s on the screen and make it disorienting. The weird thing is I kind of get what he means. Do any of you guys have a mix of art that surrounds your TV and if so are you in a constant state of confusion when watching it? Let me know…
The pretty color is what grabbed my attention to the above piece created by Danika Herrick of the Gorgeous Shiny Things blog. It’s 8′ long and has tons of storage for media equipment, DVDs, board games, and anything else you need to store behind closed doors. The greenish blue color would look great with our colorful family room rug.
Anya from the blog Elegantly Untamed made over a Craigslist find and created the above beautiful piece. This has been one of my favorites for quite some time. I love the crisp white/gold combination and the brass lion pulls makes it look like a high end furniture piece. You can see the entire DIY here.
I found the above image at the blog Room for Tuesday. I love it for the same reason that I loved the A Cup of Jo piece. A simple credenza and great gallery wall. I think the soft colors in the artwork would make it less distracting when watching TV.
Wow! I am just loving the above glossy black painted media console. The entire home was featured in Little Green Notebook. The owner’s father painted the above antique with black automotive paint. What?? I need to look into that process asap. It is amazingly beautiful.
Holy Happy Yellow!! This painted piece just makes me smile. I could really visualize this looking fabulous in our family room. The yellow ties in with our rug and would brighten everything up in there.
Decisions, decisions, decisions! There are so many amazing TV credenza options isn’t there? The first place that I will be looking is Craigslist. I’m really itching to get my hands on a piece that I can transform into something as beautiful as any of the above pieces.
But…. I first need to give our family room a fresh coat of white paint before I do anything else. I look forward to updating you with pictures!
