Benjamin Moore has announced it’s highly anticipated 2016 Color of the Year,
I can’t say that I’m really surprised by the choice. White painted walls have been a major trend for a few years. All you need to do is go on Pinterest to see room after room each decked out in white. I first became aware of how popular white walls had become while looking through all my favorite blogs. Everyone was painting their walls white. Not just one room but in most cases the entire house. I was struck how clean and crisp and well put together the white walls made the homes look. All of a sudden the walls became the canvas in which to display beautiful art and furnishings.
The problem with all of this inspiration is I looked around my own home and my spaces all of a sudden looked so drab and non-cohesive to me. A big part of having a home décor blog is photographing and showing off your own beautiful spaces. This is what readers want to see. They want to see your own personal design sense and how you put together a room. Personally I don’t want to see images of picture perfect, highly designed, unrealistic rooms that look like they are from the pages of Architectural Digest. I want to see “real rooms” that I can picture my family in and that I could, with a little inspiration, pull of myself.
I’m currently working up a plan to refresh a few of my rooms with white paint. I was dreading the process of picking the perfect white paint color. Benjamin Moore has countless white choices. According to the people at Benjamin Moore, out of all their most popular colors they carry, five of them are different shades of white.. Now my decision has become a little easier. After seeing so many beautiful images of rooms painted in Simply White, I most definitely will be exploring that color for my spaces. Here is some of the inspiration..
I chose the above image to show you how drastic of a change white can make. It must have felt so good to roll that paint over the tan paint. This image is part of the same room that is posted above it. It is courtesy of Nesting Place. I have been a big fan of “The Nester” otherwise known as Myquillyn for a long time. Make sure you check out her amazing blog.
So there you have it. Are you inspired to make the big switch over to white walls yet? Like I said earlier, I’m convinced. Not the entire house though. Just a few rooms on the main level. I will get to posting the “before” images of the rooms to be painted but for now until I have some “afters” I’m going to keep them under wraps for now!
